Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extended contest that saw the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a aggregate over 50 million viewers in the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball announced this is the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a 16% increase over the previous Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match series averaged 15.71M audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total US average was 16.1 million. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M viewers, an eight percent increase over last year and Fox’s best postseason performance since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
