Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear out of place, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his own means, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Schemers groups.

Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
